geography

Source and history

The Gschwender Rot arises as a Steinbach on the eastern slope of the Hagberg in the Welzheimer Forest in a wood in the water meadows at about 520  m above sea level. NN , between the settlement areas Wasserhof and Hagkling in the community of Gschwend . From here it flows through Hagkling and then in a flat meadow basin and in an easterly direction towards the center of Gschwend. At and in Gschwend it takes up some not yet very long streams that flow to it from the large clearing island around the place, with the first significant one it unites to form the Upper Rot ; like them, these tributaries often come in shallow and moist meadow hollows. After leaving Gschwend, it slowly turns on a south-south-east course, the valley basin becomes deeper and the forest extends on its slopes down to the flat valley floor. So it reaches the nature reserve "Rot- und Seebachtal", where the Joosenbach, the first major tributary from Gschwend- Rotenhar in the north, flows into it from the left, turning it into red .

Here it now flows almost in a southerly direction and takes on the even longer Schlechtbach from the right at Birkenlohe , then the Auerbach again from the left at Ruppertshofen - Hönig . In the now deeply cut valley below, the forest stretches down the not very steep slopes on both sides to both banks, then the brook runs into the over 5 hectare large flood retention basin Rehnenmühle , where bathing is open in midsummer.

The lower valley, which is mostly wooded to the shore, runs more and more to the east, only a little before Täferrot does the water reenter the corridor. The Gschwender Rot then flows after 17.8 km run a little north of the village at 401  m above sea level. NN from the left into the Lein .

Catchment area

The "Gschwender" Rot has a catchment area of 49.0 km². It extends about 13.5 km from the summit of the 585.2 m high Hagberg in the northwest to the southeast to the mouth, while at the widest point across it it is only about 5.5 km.

In the northwest the catchment area borders on that of the more important "Fichtenberger" Rot , which drains into the Kocher , as well as some streams in the northeast, in particular the Steigersbach , the Große Wimbach and the Krempelbach . In the east, the catchment area which is also south to push Lein current idol Bach that the smaller Leinzulaufes front of the stove, in the southeast of Sulzbach .

In the southwest and west of the watershed runs beyond the Spraitbach for flax, further north there is a smaller namesake, another in which Voggenberger Sägmühle in the municipality Alfdorf the flax-reach red .

The northern border of the catchment area stretches from Hagberg to the east, soon roughly on the route of the old sledge path to Ebnisee from Nestelberg over the Hohen Nol and Gschwend-Rotenhar to Hohentann at the northern tip of the Frickenhofer Höhe . On this plateau, the watershed then runs southeast to about Seifertshofen and bends there to the south, then passes Ruppertshofen just to the east , then also past Täferrot - Tierhaupten and finally reaches the Lein near Täferrot itself.

From here, the catchment area boundary follows the road to Durlangen and Spraitbach very precisely , from there on the route of the B 238 to Hohfeld over its climb from Gschwend, in a constant direction from then on back to Hagberg .

Inflow system

List of source branches and tributaries indented below the superordinate body of water. Always lined up from the source to the mouth. Raised from LUBW-FG10 / LUBW-SG10. Water courses according to LUBW, lengths and areas preferably according to the associated data record entries, names preferably according to the background map. Lengths to a full hundred meters, areas rounded to a tenth of a hectare. Italic water names are used as proper names in one of the sources used, otherwise a descriptive name is used as a substitute, of which only the italicized parts (valley names, mountain names, common names, etc.) are proper names from the sources.
