Roy Oppenheim (born September 1940 in Baden , Switzerland ) is a Swiss cultural journalist and former radio and television manager. Among other things, he was head of the culture department of Swiss television , director of Swiss Radio International , founded the 4th TV channel S Plus and was president of arttv.ch for many years . He moderated television programs, wrote numerous books and produced films.

Live and act

Roy Oppenheim spent his youth in Baden (Switzerland). After receiving his secondary education certificate at the Wettingen teacher training college , he studied art history , history and journalism in Zurich from 1960 to 1968 . He earned his studies as a freelance journalist for radio and television and thus came into contact with the electronic media for the first time. In the Swiss military, Oppenheim held the degree of colonel (press and radio communication). Roy Oppenheim is married and has one son.

From 1971 to 1997 he worked for SRG radio and television in various functions: as head of the culture department of Swiss television, department head of national program coordination SRG. 1972–1975 Oppenheim advised the Council of Europe on questions relating to the cultural role of television and cultural exchange. From 1972 to 1976 he was an expert at UNESCO Paris on matters of cultural cooperation in the field of television. During the Cold War , on behalf of the Council of Europe , he initiated television productions such as “Works of Art on the Test Stand” between television stations in the Eastern Bloc and Western countries. 1983–1986 he was in charge of national radio / television program coordination at SRG. In this function he introduced the interregional radio program “Notturno”. In 1989 he became director of Schweizer Radio International und Telefonrundspruch (until 1997). In 1990 he introduced a new strategy and broadcast the programs of Schweizer Radio International for the first time instead of shortwave via the Astra satellite.

Oppenheim became known through numerous television interviews with personalities from cultural life such as Yehudi Menuhin , Oskar Kokoschka , Audrey Hepburn , Marc Chagall , Leopold Lindtberg , Bernhard Luginbühl , Jean Tinguely . From 1991 to 1994 he built the 4th television chain as a director ( S Plus , Switzerland 4 ). At S Plus, he provided new TV providers with fixed broadcasting slots such as B. Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Ringier , Curti Medien, Basler Zeitung and observer . Video journalists were also used for the first time in Switzerland at S Plus. He was then Director of Marketing and Communication at SRG General Management and from 1999 to 2007 Head of Communication at SUISA . In this function he initiated the Expo.02 project Klangturm on the Arteplage Biel . In 2001 he founded his own media company artup GmbH . 2001–2007 he headed the new Erwin Rehmann Sculpture Museum in Laufenburg .

Since the death of his mother Edith Oppenheim-Jonas in 2001 Oppenheim manages the rights of Swiss Cartoon -Figur Papa Moll .

Oppenheim is married and has one son.
