Ruža Pospiš-Baldani

Ruža Pospiš-Baldani ( Cyrillic  Ружа Поспиш Балдани , pronunciation: rǔːʒa pɔ̂spiːʃ baldǎni ; born July 25, 1942 in Varaždinske Toplice , Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Baldani was born in Varaždinske Toplice. She made her operatic debut in 1961 at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb as Konchakovna in Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor . She continued to sing at this theater and at the National Theater in Belgrade in the 1960s . In 1965 she appeared in the Metropolitan Opera in New York City as Maddalena in Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto . Between 1970 and 1978 she was engaged at the Bavarian State Opera . From 1973 to 1987 she appeared regularly as a guest at the Vienna State Opera , where she received recognition for her role as Brangäne in Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde . In 1976 she appeared at the Paris Opera in Verdi as Amneris Aida on . As the eponymous figure, she appeared in Georges Bizet's opera Carmen at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo . She has also made guest appearances at the Cologne Opera , the Edinburgh Festival , the National Opera in Greece, the Hamburg State Opera , the Houston Grand Opera , the Hungarian State Opera , La Scala , the Liceu , the Lyric Opera of Chicago , the National Opera and Ballet Theater Sofia , the Salzburg Festival , the San Francisco Opera , the Savonlinna Opera Festival , the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma , the Teatro di San Carlo and the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro .
