Rudolf Karl Wilhelm von Horn (born March 1, 1833 in Wittenberg , † May 4, 1905 in Moys ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Horn came from a family that had produced a number of high officers in the Prussian army . He was a son of the later lieutenant general Rudolf von Horn (1798–1863) and his wife Berta Renate, born von Reckow (1799–1845).

Military career

After his upbringing in his parents' house, Horn visited the cadet houses in Bensberg and Berlin . Subsequently, on April 26, 1851, he was transferred as a characterized ensign to the 29th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by the end of November 1851 . He said goodbye on July 8, 1855 , but was re-employed on April 19, 1856. Horn served as a battalion adjudant from October 1, 1858 to May 31, 1859. He was then transferred to the 26th Infantry Regiment in Magdeburg , promoted to Prime Lieutenant in mid-August 1860 and took part in the war against Denmark in 1864. In September 1865 Horn rose to captain and company commander . He led his company in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles near Münchengrätz , Königgrätz and Pressburg . For his behavior he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV Class with Swords.

In the war against France in 1870/71 Horn took part with his 4th company in the battle of Gravelotte , the battle of Beaumont and the siege of Paris . In addition to the Iron Cross II. Class, he received the Honor Cross III. Class of the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern with swords. After the peace treaty , he was promoted to major on February 21, 1874 and transferred to Saarlouis to the 8th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 70 . There Horn was appointed commander of the 1st battalion on July 4, 1874, which was stationed in Trier from April 1, 1876 . In this capacity, promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-September 1881 , Horn joined the regimental staff on November 15, 1883 as a regular staff officer . In position à la suite of the regiment, he was transferred to Kolberg on December 6, 1884 as commander . He was promoted to colonel on July 14, 1885 , and on March 22, 1888, while leaving his regiment in the same style , he was appointed commander of the Stronghold Boyen . On November 6, 1888, Horn received the character of Major General. In approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposition on July 20, 1892 with the statutory pension . After his farewell, Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring in recognition of his services in August 1892.

Horn married Ida Großer on November 28, 1862 in Magdeburg. The marriage resulted in six children, including the future German artillery general Viktor Sigismund Rudolf (1866–1934), and also:
