Rudolph Karl Ernst von Freymann

Rudolph Karl Ernst von Freymann adH Nursie (* 3. January 1821 in Riga ; † 6 December 1906 in Vyborg ) was a Baltic Adelmann and Russian Major-General of engineering service . As a military civil engineer, he played a key role in the construction of the fortress in Kronstadt and the construction of the Moscow - Novgorod railway line .

Life

Like his father and his cousins, Rudolph Karl began his military career. He began his military career in 1834, with the rank of conductor, in the conductor company of the main engineering school (later Nikolai engineering school). On August 5, 1841, he was promoted to Ensign of the Field Engineer Corps (later Military Engineer Corps). He then completed his specialist training as an engineer officer and received an officer’s license . After that, in 1843 he continued his service with the Dünaburg engineering command. In December of the same year he was transferred to the engineering command in Kiev . In 1849 he was promoted to sub- lieutenant, for his work there he received the highest praise and recognition and in 1853 was promoted to lieutenant . During these years, the expansion work for the railways began in Russia , Rudolph Ernst was one of the engineering officers who were assigned to the expansion of the railway lines. In 1859 he entered the service of the railway company, which built the Moscow-Nizhny-Novgorod line . He remained in this position until 1862 and was promoted to staff captain in 1859 . From October 1862 to June 1863 he was assigned to the St. Petersburg engineering command, and from June 1863 to June 1868 he was employed in the engineering command and the building management of the Kronstadt fortress. In 1863 he was promoted to captain , in 1869 to lieutenant colonel and in 1874 to colonel . He now served as the senior officer in the main engineering administration of Kronstadt. During the war years 1877/78 he was in charge of the transport of the great Danube railway line at the Ungheni border station . Then he continued his service in Kronstadt. He was promoted to major general on June 20, 1882, and discharged from service at his own request, with the privilege of wearing the uniform and full pension rights. He then lived first in Saint Petersburg and then moved to Vyborg, where he spent his old age. Rudolph Karl died on December 6, 1906 and was buried next to his wife in the Vyborg military cemetery.

Origin and family

Rudolph Karl came from the Baltic noble family von Freymann . He was the son of the Russian Lieutenant General Karl Otto von Freymann (1788-1858) and his first wife Charlotte Helene Dorothea von Torklus (* 1821 in Riga). In 1847 he had married Elisabeth Christine von Schwarz († 1902), the daughter of Colonel Nikolai von Schwarz, in Kiev. His descendants were:
