Career

Rumun Ndur, who was born in Nigeria, grew up in Sarnia, Canada . He began his career in the junior teams around his hometown. In the 1992/93 season he moved to the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League to the Guelph Storm , where he played for three seasons. In 146 games he scored 17 goals and 57 assists for a total of 74 points, and he also spent 393 minutes in the penalty box. Before his final OHL season, the Nigerian was selected by the Buffalo Sabers in the third round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in 69th position, making him the first Nigerian to succeed.

In the 1995/96 season , the defender moved to the Rochester Americans , the Buffalos farm team . In his second season there he had so impressed those responsible that he played his first two games in the National Hockey League during the 1996/97 season , making him the first player in his country to play in the NHL. In the following season he also ran for the Sabers, but due to their oversupply of good defenders, they put Ndur on the waiver list in December 1998 . From there, the New York Rangers took over his rights and used him in 31 games of the 1998/99 season . He got his first four points, including a goal. After only one year with the Rangers, the newly formed Atlanta Thrashers signed him off the waiver list in December 1999 and he played a total of 27 games for the team. This should also have been his last NHL games. Ndur began the 2000/01 season with the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League and finished it with the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL.

In the summer of 2001 he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent . After they had used him in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals, the Nigerian moved to Europe, where he played for the EC Graz 99ers in the Austrian Ice Hockey League in the 2002/03 season. He spent the 2003/04 season with the Columbus Cottonmouths in the ECHL . He then played for a year and a half in the United Hockey League for Danbury Trashers and Kalamazoo Wings , before finishing the 2005/06 season at HK Jesenice in the Slovenian ice hockey league . With Jesenice he became Slovenian champion straight away . He stayed in Europe for the next two years and played for Coventry Blaze in the British Elite Ice Hockey League . With Coventry he won the EIHL championship title and the EIHL Challenge Cup in 2007. For the 2008/09 season he moved within the EIHL to the Nottingham Panthers , for which he scored two goals in 33 games and gave four assists. Most recently he was in the 2009/10 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 2007 newly founded IHL under contract. After the season the league and team were dissolved, whereupon he remained without a club.
