Russel James (born 1962 in Perth , Australia ) is an Australian photographer .

biography

Russel James comes from a working class family. At the age of 14 he dropped out of school and got by with odd jobs until he finally worked as a police officer in a special terrorist unit. He then traveled to Japan and Sweden . In 1989 he came to the United States where he discovered photography for himself. His breakthrough came six years later on a shoot for W Magazine. James is one of the top fashion photographers and has shot for Vogue , Sports Illustrated , American Photo, Marie Claire , and GQ , among others . He is also one of the main Victoria's Secret photographers . He has worked with many models and actors, such as Alessandra Ambrósio , Tyra Banks , Gisele Bündchen , Naomi Campbell , Karolína Kurková , Adriana Lima , Michelle Alves , Marisa Miller , Ana Beatriz Barros , Heidi Klum , Angela Lindvall , Miranda Kerr , Erin Wasson and Scarlett Johansson .

Russel James has been a guest photographer and juror at America's Next Top Model and Australia's Next Top Model several times . In addition to his work as a photographer, he also shoots music videos and made TV spots for Victoria's Secret and Gillette .

In 2007 he won the Hasselblad Masters Award.
