Panic! at the Disco (from 2008 to 2009 in the case Panic at the Disco ) is an American alternative rock - band from Las Vegas , Nevada , the two high school was founded -Schülern.

Band history

The group was originally founded as a blink-182 association by school friends Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith, later Brendon Urie and Brent Wilson joined. The band name is taken from a text line of the song Panic by Name Taken from 2004: “Panic at the disco / Sat back and took it so slow / Are you nervous? Are you shaking? / Save compliments to praise complation / We don't have to feel we fit in / We can move back / We can leave them ". Since name Taken are not known to many people, the band explained the origin of the band name using the title Panic by the Smiths .

The band was discovered through demo recordings on PureVolume - they left a link to their site in the guest book of Pete Wentz ( Fall Out Boy ) 's website . Their popularity also increased on similar websites . Eventually the US press became aware of the group and they got their first recording deal. On January 17, 2006, the band celebrated the video premiere of the first single I Write Sins Not Tragedies in the MTV show TRL . On May 4th, 2006 Panic! at the Disco in the Bürgerhaus Stollwerck in Cologne for the first time a concert in Germany. It was sold out.

Wilson left the band in May 2006. He was replaced by Jon Walker. On September 1, 2006, the band received the MTV Video Music Award , the so-called Moonman, in the Video of the Year category for their music video for I Write Sins Not Tragedies and also performed. In addition, the video for I Write Sins Not Tragedies has been viewed more than 200 million times on the YouTube website. The song became the most played song on the American radio station WHTZ.

Her second album Pretty was released on March 22, 2008 . Odd. It surprised fans and critics with a musical reorientation; the band now offered pop songs based on The Beatles . She also changed her name to Panic at the Disco , without the exclamation mark . This change not only met with rejection from fans and critics, but also caused increasing differences of opinion within the group.

On July 7, 2009, the band finally announced the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. While Urie and Smith wanted to continue making music as Panic at the Disco , Ross and Walker announced that they would concentrate on other projects. The band is said to have split up solely for artistic reasons and not because of personal differences. A succession was arranged shortly afterwards, so that the former The Cab guitarist Ian Crawford and the ex-bassist of The Brobecks , Dallon Weekes , replace the two missing members. After the breakup, that too ! reinserted into the band's name. Ross and Walker formed a new band a few weeks later, The Young Veins .

The third studio album was released on March 22, 2011 under the title Vices & Virtues . The fourth studio album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die , followed worldwide on October 8, 2013.

In April 2015, the band announced that drummer Spencer Smith was leaving the band.

Their fifth studio album, Death of a Bachelor , was released on January 15, 2016 .

The sixth studio album Pray for the Wicked was released on June 22, 2018 .

In Germany, the band's song High Hopes was used for half-time recordings in sports broadcasts and at the end of some programs on Sky Sport .

style

Panic! at the Disco combine alternative rock with emo and pop punk . The debut album features pop rock pieces that get their individuality through strings , accordion and nostalgic fairground sounds. Danceable indie disco hits are also included. The band describes their style of music as a mixture of rock, big beat and alternative. The second album, which is more oriented towards pop rock of the 1960s and 1970s, falls out of the series.
