Ryszard Szary (born March 28, 1979 in Żywiec ) is a former Polish biathlete .

Ryszard Szary contested his first international races as part of the Biathlon Junior World Championships 1998 in Jericho , where he was ninth in the individual and 14th in the sprint. The next year's Biathlon Junior World Championships in Pokljuka were less successful . Szary was 56th in the individual, 58th in the sprint and seventh in relay with Michał Piecha , Bartłomiej Golec and Robert Ponikwia. In 2000 the Pole made his debut in the World Cup . In Oberhof he was 88th in a sprint race in his first race. In the same season he achieved his best result in a World Cup race as 70th of the sprint in Antholz . In 2001 in Haute-Maurienne , 2002 in Kontiolahti , 2003 in Forni Avoltri and 2004 in Minsk he took part in the European biathlon championships . It was a strong phase for the male biathletes in Poland, who were European champions in 2000 in Kościelisko as well as in 2001 and third in the relay in 2004. Szary did not manage to qualify for one of these successful relays against athletes like Tomasz Sikora , Wiesław Ziemianin , Krzysztof Topór , Wojciech Kozub , Michał Piecha or Grzegorz Bodziana . In 2001 he was 51st, in 2002 44th and 2003 36th of the individual. In 2003, he was placed 37 in the sprint and 43 in the pursuit. It was the only year in which he was also used in the relay. With Piecha, Ziemianin and Golec he was only 13th and thus achieved by far the worst Polish placement of that time. In 2004 he was 41st in the sprint and 35th in the pursuit. The year before, he also took part for the only time in the 2003 Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk and finished 83rd in the individual and 77th in the sprint. At the end of his career, the 2004 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie , where Szary was 32nd in the sprint and 29th in the pursuit race and with Stanislaw Kępka Senior , Łukasz Witek and Maciej Wojciechowski was sixth in the relay race. He did not finish the mass start race.
