Sławnikowice (German Kieslingswalde ) is a village with 347 inhabitants in the Gmina Zgorzelec of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

geography

The approximately 2.5 km long forest hoof village Sławnikowice is 14 km east of Görlitz and 4 km south of the European route 40 in Upper Lusatia .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1301 as Keselingswalde . Kieslingswalde fell to the Prussian province of Silesia in 1816 as a result of the Congress of Vienna and was initially assigned to the Lauban district , but then to the Görlitz district . In 1945 Kieslingswalde became part of Poland as Sławnikowice . Around 1480 a Christoph von Hoberg was the owner of the manor; he left two sons and a daughter. In 1483, she married Bernhard von Tschirnhaus, who became the landlord and progenitor of the Kieslingwald family, which had lived here for 240 years.

In 1714 Mrs. Ursula Katharina von Falkenhain bought the estate and soon sold it to her husband Hans Friedrich von Falkenhain. He had the rectory renovated inside and out and also did a lot for the community. In 1725 he sold the estate to Christian Friedrich Fromberg. After his death, the second son Friedrich August von Fromberg inherited Kieslingswalde and Stolzenberg. In 1801 Wolf Christian Ludwig von Gersdorff acquired the estate and accessories. In 1812 the castle burned down. In 1851 Colonel Lestog bought the manor. From his hands it passed into the possession of Baron Herrmann von Voss in 1855. This sold it in 1860 to the first lieutenant a. D. Hans Ferdinand Freiherrn von Funk. Arthur von Witzleben bought it from him in 1862 and Heinrich Ludwig Stecker from him in 1863. After many changes, the estate came into the possession of the ducal Brunswick chamberlain and royal Prussian captain a. D. Artur von Witzleben. After his death his son W. von Witzleben took over the paternal property. From 1946 to 2001 a primary school was housed in the former castle, and from 2003 to 2005 the manor house was leased by the Polish-Saxon foundation “Tschirnhaus-Museion e. V. “Since 2005 the mansion has been owned by a visual artist from Belgium.

  • The classicist castle with its central projection based on the Palladian motif was built in 1812–1815. The associated manor was built in 1810 and was once owned by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus .
  • The Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (kościół Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa) is a simple hall building with a roof turret , which was last rebuilt in 1838. In 1733 the burial chapel of those von Fromberg was added. In addition to two epitaphs from 1684 and 1688, an atonement cross from the 14th to 16th centuries is walled into the church walls .

The epitaph from 1684 is about Christoph von Tschirnhaus (1604–1684), father of Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus. The other epitaph from 1688 is a child's grave. Here lies Dorothea Sophia Eleonore von Tschirnhaus (1686–1688), daughter of Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus. The inscription on the epitaph reads:

“A treasure is hidden below, but the best part is above. Lorgen will praise the sky, Before she really tasted the world. We persevere in eternity. There our treasure will be us again, New Spirit and these members, But in more perfection. "

Another attraction was in the church until 1976: the large grave monument of Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus (1651–1708). It consisted of sandstone painted gray and had the following wording:

“To the distinguished and noble man, Mr. Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus, heir to Kieslingswalde and Stoltzenberg, Royal Polish and Electoral Saxon Council, member of the Royal Academy of Paris, the prince of philosophers, natural scientist and mathematician of his time, who six times for the sake of higher studies Wandered through Belgium, four times France, once England, Italy, Sicily and Malta in twelve years of inquisitive travels, discovered the art of finding the truth and taking care of one's health, and was the first to invent extremely large glass lenses to support optics, as well as jaspamethysts and jasponyxes with his own machines and what the present marvels, the future will admire, who was the first European to invent the method of making transparent porcelain of any color, so that it surpassed the tableware of the Indians in shine and hardness, the knight who through his services to the court, the non-profit sciences and the fatherland si ch acquired an immortal name, born on April 10th, 1651, died on October 11th, 1708, his only, deeply sad brother Georg Albrecht von Tschirnhaus, heir to Oberschönfeld and Hartlieb, set this monument in piety to the sorely missed brother. "

The Kieslingswalde church was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century. It was first mentioned in 1346. The middle of the three bells bears the year 1440, the big bell 1474. Before the Reformation, the local parish was under the archpriest of Görlitz, who was again under the bishop of Meißen. Before there was a church here, the villagers probably wandered to Görlitz to attend church services. The smallest of the three bells was donated to the church by Friedrich von Tschirnhaus in 1587. He also had the church tower built. The community suffered badly from the Thirty Years' War. In 1642 two Swedish regiments came to Lauban (Luban) to find food. The manor was set on fire. With him, the school yard, the rectory and two gardeners burnt down completely. A grandson of Tschirnhaus, who died in 1602, had the church tower re-covered in 1672 and equipped with a clock. He also rebuilt the burned-down manor house, and he showed himself to be noble in building the school and parsonage. He gave the church a baptismal font, a choir skirt, altar clothing and altar candlesticks, and had the church building behind the altar extended. The three church bells had rung in the Kieslingswalde church for 500 years. In 1943 they were supposed to be melted down and used to manufacture weapons. However, as it turned out later, the bells were not melted down. You are now in the tower of the Trinity Church in Oldenburg-Osternburg and in the new tower of the Resurrection Church in Steinfeld.
