On the topographical survey of the Rhineland around 1820, the stream is still referred to as Saarbach below the Welgerbach estuary . The Welgerbach is called Mehringerbach on this map .

According to a description of the Roman road from Trier to Bingen , the name Saarbach is still used in Oberfell . After the union of the brooks that form the Feller Bach, the Roman road led over the Feller Bach, followed the Saarbach up to the point where it turns south in its course. The road then left the valley and continued towards Viehhaus ( Mehring ) and Büdlicherbrück .
