history

The architecture office Sacker was founded in 1992 by Detlef Sacker. After the company held the competitions for the Freiburg Fair, the Phleps Sculpture Hall in Freiburg i. Br. And other construction projects, the office grew rapidly. Sacker Generalplaner GmbH was founded in 2002, Jens Pasche was part of the management from 1998 to 2018, and Christopher Höfler since 2014. Since 2017 the office has been legally managed as Sacker Architekten GmbH and managed by Detlef Sacker and Höfler as managing partners.

Detlef Sacker

The office founder and managing director (* 1958) studied architecture at the University of Karlsruhe before setting up his own office in Freiburg i. Br. Settled down. Detlef Sacker is a member of the Association of German Architects and was a member of the design advisory board of the city of Ulm from 2016 to 2019 . He is also a member of the mobile design advisory board of the Chamber of Architects regularly Baden-Wuerttemberg and as a judge in architectural competitions involved.

Buildings and architectural style

Many buildings by the Sacker architecture office are characterized by a clear and reduced formal language . For example, the design for the Freiburg trade fair (1997) is based on long, cuboid event halls interrupted by galleries , bridges and wooden cubes. The stand construction was completed in 2000. The sculpture hall of the Foundation for Concrete Art Roland Phleps , Freiburg i. Br., (Completion 1998) and the new Darmstadt Nordbad (under construction in 2020) are characterized by clear lines. The five city villas, which were completed in 2017 at the Freiburg freight yard , are based on cubic structures that are loosened up by offset facade elements.

Sacker develops its buildings with special consideration of the respective location. Thus, the main building of the company Testo (2009 draft, completed in 2012) adds, for example, by the facade of limestone in the surrounding countryside of the Black Forest one. The building complex hides its seven storeys, of which only a maximum of five can be seen, due to the structural use of the terraces . Inclined facades should also make the building appear slimmer and narrower.

The Radon Revital Bad in Menzenschwand also blends in with its surroundings thanks to gentle transitions between indoor and outdoor areas, without the need for extensive landscaping measures. The outdoor and seaside swimming pool in Friedrichshafen (2017), the indoor and outdoor swimming pool in Bretten (2016), the indoor sports pool in Neckarsulm (2014) and the expansion and renovation of the Keidel Mineral Thermal Baths in Freiburg i. Br. Realized (2011).

The office is a member of the German Sustainable Building Council and pursues ecological aspects in its designs in order to keep the energy consumption of a planned building as low as possible. Some buildings are also designed in such a way that the buildings can be expanded or provided with extensions in the future with relatively little effort.

Working method

The architecture office processes its construction projects according to the Building Information Modeling principle (BIM): All building data such as draft drawings , quantity take-offs, costs, etc. are digitally modeled and linked so that, for example, changes to the building design are automatically reflected in an adapted cost calculation. Another focus of the office is the creation of master plans in which the flow of goods and production processes, such as B. occur in manufacturing plants, can be simulated in the planning phase. In this way, building (parts) can be better arranged and properties can be used optimally over the long term.

Honourings and prices

Sacker won the first nationwide prizes in the form of the Good Buildings Award from the Association of German Architects , on the one hand in 2002 for the first three exhibition halls of the Freiburg Exhibition Center and on the other in 2005 for the multi-purpose hall of the Erich Kästner School (Donaueschingen).

In 2007, Sacker also gained an international reputation by winning the IOC / IAKS Award in bronze (for the Radon Revital Bath). The Hugo Häring award in Baden-Württemberg has been won several times, most recently in 2017 for the new Testo site in Titisee.
