Salandra is a municipality in the southern Italian region of Basilicata in the province of Matera with 2653 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
The place is on a hill above the valley of the Salandrella , a watercourse. After Matera there are km to the northeast about 25 and west to Potenza km circa 45th
history
Wall remnants and finds suggest a Norman origin. The lords of the 12th century castle were Gilberto di Salandra, then Francesco Attendolo Sforza and finally the Revertera family.
Attractions
- Some walls and two arcades still exist from the former castle complex.
- A Reformation monastery from the 17th century has a remarkable gate and two Roman-style lion sculptures.
- In the church of San Antonio there are two polyptyches from the 17th century (by Frater Simone from Florence) and by the painter Antonio Stabile from 1580.
