Salvatore Cavallaro (* 16th August 1995 ) is an Italian boxer in the middleweight (75 kg).

Career

Cavallaro won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Astana in 2011 . After victories against Oleksandr Chyschnjak from Ukraine and Daulet Baigabatow from Kazakhstan, he was eliminated in the semifinals against Orkhan Mayilli from Azerbaijan (+7: 7). In 2012 and 2013 he was Italian youth champion.

In 2013 he won another bronze medal at the European Youth Championships in Rotterdam . With victories against Connor Wallace from Ireland, Athanasios Kazakis from Germany and Robert Racz from Slovakia, he made it to the semi-finals, where he lost to the French Christian Assomo (1: 2).

In June 2015 he started in the elite class for the first time and took part in the European Games in Baku . In the preliminary round he won against the Serbian Olympian Aleksandar Drenovak (3-0) and in the round of 16 against the British Commonwealth Champion and World Cup bronze winner Anthony Fowler (3-0), before he defeated the Russian Maxim Koptjakow in the quarter-finals eliminated (1: 2).

In August 2015 he fought his way back into the medal ranks at the European Championships in Samokow when he reached the semi-finals against Denis Radovan from Germany (2-1), Christian Assomo from France (3-0) and Troy Williamson from England (3-0) reached. There he was defeated in the fight for the final against Poland's Tomasz Jabłoński (1: 2).

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha, he lost to Anthony Campbell in the preliminary round. Also in the European Olympic qualification in 2016 he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Arman Hovhikyan (0: 3).

At the 2017 European Championships in Kharkiv , he won a bronze medal and thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was defeated in the round of 16 against the Cuban Olympic champion Arlen López . He won the silver medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Spain and a bronze medal at the 2018 EU Championships in Spain.

He ended the 2019 European Games in Minsk by winning the silver medal after losing in the final against Oleksandr Chysnjak. At the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

In 2015 he also boxed for the “Italia Thunder” team in the WSB . His balance was 3-4.
