Sammy Hagar & Friends -

Sammy Hagar & Friends is a music album released in 2013 by the American guitarist and singer Sammy Hagar . It was recorded and released on the occasion of its 40th stage anniversary and recorded with numerous guest musicians .

background

Sammy Hagar celebrates his birthday every year with a multi-day party in his own club, the Cabo Wabo Cantina . During this time he usually appears with numerous musician friends. This gave rise to the idea of recording an album with musician friends of various styles. In addition to newly written titles, among others penned by Rival Sons singer Jay Buchanan and Hagar himself, the musicians also recorded numerous cover versions of well-known songs by other artists. In addition to Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville , the Depeche Mode title Personal Jesus , Bob Seger's Ramblin 'Gamblin' Man and Don Nix ' Going Down also found their way onto the album.

Hagar was supported by his "house band", the Waboritas (Mona Gnader, Vic Johnson and David Lauser), and members of Chickenfoot ( Joe Satriani , Chad Smith and Michael Anthony ) and Neal Schon , Nancy Wilson ( Heart ), Toby Keith , Taj Mahal , Kid Rock and Ronnie Dunn ( Brooks & Dunn ) on the recordings. For the song Not Going Down , Hagar played again with Bill Church and Denny Carmassi, who belonged to the band Montrose , in which Hagar had started his career as a singer.

reception

Rocks magazine wrote that the album was “full of surprises, in other words: blues, sound and Americana.” All We Need is an Island or Winding Down exuded an unexpected hippie flair. Hagar knows "no fear of contact, whether with country star Toby Keith or proll rocker Kid Rock," he dares "himself to Depeche Mode's staff Jesus. “This is“ a daring version ”that “ will be made up for in the end with going down ”.
