Santa Fe is the 3rd district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . About 108,000 people live here on an area of 4,488 hectares. Santa Fe completely surrounds the La Candelaria district , which earlier belonged to it and was later established as an independent district. Santa Fe has a diverse cultural and economic life.
The heart of Bogotá
Santa Fe was originally the most central area of the capital. It is home to traditional petty bourgeois barrios such as La Perseverancia , Belén and Lajas , as well as more exclusive districts and residential areas. The cultural and historical heritage is omnipresent and its architectural, urban planning and gastronomic potential is the attraction of many tourists. It is a district full of contrasts with lively squares and markets. There are also cafes and exclusive restaurants and delicatessen shops here.
Nature invites you to go on countless hikes and excursions to lagoons, mountains, waterfalls and other nature experiences. The 3152 meter high mountain with the pilgrimage site Monserrate with the Basilica of the Lord towers over the surrounding area. What is striking is the significant difference between the urban and inhabited area with 662 hectares and the agriculturally used area of 3,816 hectares, i.e. six times as much.
Important institutions and sights in the city district:
