Santiago Gomez Sierra
Santiago Gómez Sierra (born November 24, 1957 in Madridejos ) is a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Huelva .
Life
Santiago Gómez Sierra studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the seminary in Cordoba . At the Complutense University of Madrid Gómez Sierra earned a licentiate in Philosophy and Communication Studies and the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid a licentiate in trade dogma . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Córdoba on September 18, 1982 .
After his ordination, Santiago Gómez Sierra worked as a trainer, subregens and prefect of studies at the San Pelagio seminary in Córdoba until 1993 . From 1983 to 1991 he was also pastor of the parish Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Alcolea and from 1989 to 1991 archpriest of Alto Guadalquivir . Gómez Sierra was pastor of the parish of San Juan y Todos los Santos in Cordoba from 1993 to 2005 . In addition, he was vicar general of the diocese of Córdoba from 1997 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2007 . In 2005 Santiago Gómez Sierra became dean of the cathedral chapter at the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba and in 2007 he was also chaplain of the Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón and president of the CajaSur savings bank .
On December 18, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Vergi and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Seville . The Archbishop of Seville, Juan José Asenjo Pelegrina , donated him episcopal ordination on February 26, 2011 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Córdoba, Demetrio Fernández González , and the Archbishop Emeritus of Seville, Cardinal Carlos Amigo Vallejo, OFM .
On June 15, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Huelva. The inauguration took place on July 25 of the same year.
In the Spanish Bishops' Conference , Santiago Gómez Sierra is a member of the Commission for the New Evangelization , Catechesis and Catechumenate .
