Sara Vilic (born March 29, 1992 in Gmünd ) is an Austrian triathlete , U23 World Champion Aquathlon (2011) and Olympian (2016).

Career

Sara Vilic started swimming at SV Villach when she was seven and competed in several national championships. She was accepted into the youth squad of the Austrian Swimming Federation and started in July 2008 at the World Championships in Rimini.

In 2010, Sara Vilic from Carinthia was fifth at the World Aquathlon Championships (running, swimming and running) and in September 2011 the strong swimmer became the U23 world champion in China.

The dual citizen (Austria / Croatia) has been part of the U23 squad of the ÖTRV for Austria since 2013 . She competes in the French racing series Grand Prix de Triathlon for the Stade Poitevin Triathlon club .

At the Triathlon World Championship racing series in 2015 , Vilic was the second best Austrian and placed 58th.

2016 Summer Olympics

In March 2016, with seventh place in the first race of the world championship racing series, she was able to secure a starting place for the Olympic Games; she competed in Rio de Janeiro together with Julia Hauser (nominated for Lisa Perterer ) and Thomas Springer the 37th rank.

With 22nd place in the ninth and final race of the 2016 season (Grand Final), she finished 24th in the ITU's annual ranking.

In March 2017, the then 24-year-old was able to achieve the first medal for Austria with third place in the first race of the 2017 World Cup series in Abu Dhabi. At the European Triathlon Championships in June 2017 in Kitzbühel, she finished seventh as the best Austrian.

In the annual ranking of the ITU World Championship Series 2018 , she finished in 53rd place as the fourth-best Austrian after the last race in Australia in September. In July 2019, after finishing second in Tiszaújváros (Hungary), she won her second World Cup medal after 2013. She starts in the A-squad of the Austrian Triathlon Association (ÖTRV) and since 2020 in the OMNi-BiOTiC POWER triathlon team.

Sara Vilic lives in Villach and is trained by Martin Papista .
