The district of Saurama is located in the province of Vilcas Huamán in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on February 19, 1986. It has an area of ​​89.2 km². The 2017 census counted 1115 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1647, in 2007 it was 1464. The district administration is located in the 3540  m high town of Saurama with 251 inhabitants (as of 2017). Saurama is located about 22 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Vilcas Huamán .

Geographical location

The district of Saurama is located in the Andean highlands in the southeast of the province of Vilcas Huamán. The Río Pampas flows around the district in the south and in the east.

The Saurama district borders in the southwest with the district Carhuanca , in the northwest with the district Huambalpa , in the north with the district Vilcas Huamán , in the east with the districts Cocharcas and Uranmarca ( province Chincheros ) and in the south with the district San Antonio de Cachi ( province Andahuaylas ).
