Saved is Bob Dylan's 20th studio album. The album was released on LP and cassette on June 23, 1980, and the CD version followed in 1990.
Album information
Saved is part of Dylan's Christian trilogy, which also includes the 1979 albums Slow Train Coming and 1981 Shot of love . The album contains songs with gospel arrangements and lyrically deals with Christian themes. In the song Saved , Dylan celebrates his salvation from sin through the "blood of the Lamb" and thanks his Lord for his mercy. Covenant woman is aimed at a “woman of the covenant” who has saved the lyric self ; she got very close emotionally to him and made him familiar with God. Dylan develops symbolic images in the texts that describe his relationship with God. He clings to him like a rock (Solid rock), for him he rushes through the world (Pressing on), from him he feels graciously redeemed (Saving Grace) and he adores him in his personal relationship with Jesus (In the Garden) .

The album reached number 3 on the UK charts. and number 24 in the US charts The record was often rated negatively by critics, such as Robert Christgau ; he gave the album a "C +". Concerts from this period were also often criticized. The San Francisco Chronicle commented : “Bob Dylan's God-Awful Gospel.” Before the concerts of the Christian phase, there were demonstrations for and against Dylan's new Christian self-image. The criticism often referred to the fundamentalist-Christian orientation of the song lyrics. Some music colleagues appreciated the musicality of the album. The pieces Pressing on by Alicia Keys (2013) and Covenant woman by Hannah Cohen (2014) received remarkable covers .
