Bob Dylan: The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006 is a 2008 Columbia Records album by Bob Dylan and another installment in his "Bootleg Series" of rare and unreleased records.

classification

All recordings date from 1989 to 2006, in which a clear direction can be seen in Dylan's work. The pieces become more original again and are based on the beginnings of his career. He turns back to the folk and blues songs. In his life, too, the liberation from the crisis begins . The tracks are mostly sparsely orchestrated, often only Dylan himself can be heard with guitar.

Publications

It was regularly released as a double CD and in the limited edition with three CDs. It was later released as a single album consisting of CD 1 of the double version. The version with the three CDs also contains a 150-page book and some editions also a 7 "vinyl single with two additional titles.

Record label announcements that the two-CD version would cost $ 18.99 and the three-CD version would cost $ 129.99 drew criticism from Bob Dylan biographer Michael Gray and others.

During the first week of October 2008, the entire album was available in free streaming format on National Public Radio's official website .

Songs

The titles are neither in chronological order nor complete. The album includes recordings from Oh Mercy , World Gone Wrong , Time Out of Mind and Modern Times as well as some earlier, unreleased tracks from 1989 to 2006. The compilation also includes a song from an album Dylan made in 1992 with David Bromberg started producing but never finished; and a duet with Ralph Stanley The Lonesome River . Although Under the Red Sky , Good As I Been to You and “Love and Theft” were recorded during this period, no titles from these recordings are included. Another version of Series of Dreams has already been released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 3 . Dreamin 'of You , an outtake of the time-out-of-mind recordings, was offered as a free download on Dylan's website and was sent to several radio stations as a "promotional single".

Many titles are only available in a different version. The differences are sometimes big and show the genesis of the songs that were finally released.
