Eat the Document is a documentary about Bob Dylan's 1966 UK tour with The Hawks , where he made his first electric guitar. Dylan directed and edited the film with Howard Alk and DA Pennebaker , who had documented Dylan's UK tour with the film Dont Look Back the year before . Eat the Document was originally intended for the ABC television channel Stage '66 .
The film was never made available to the public. Some unauthorized copies are in the possession of collectors, including copies of a longer section of a drugged Dylan in a taxi with John Lennon .
The film contains, among other things, an interview with a visitor to a concert in Manchester who shouted "Judas" during the second half of Dylan playing electric guitar. In addition, scenes in the hotel and a duet with Johnny Cash were filmed.
