Dylan - A Fool Such as I is Bob Dylan's thirteenth studio album . It was released by Columbia Records in November 1973 .
Dylan was produced with little input from Bob Dylan himself, as outtakes were primarily used from the recordings for the albums Self Portrait and New Morning . The album's release date coincided with Dylan's move from Columbia to Asylum Records and the announcement of his first major tour since 1966.
After its release it was seen as an attempt by Columbia Records to get as much money as possible out of the departing artist, or even as a kind of "revenge" for thinning the Dylan sales market, just two months before the release of Planet Waves a new album was released. Dylan consists of two pieces that were created while working on Self Portrait and seven pieces that were created while working on New Morning .
This is one of the reasons why the album received very restrained criticism. It reached number 17 on the US album charts and was awarded a gold record . It was the first Dylan album that did not make it into the UK charts, even though his albums are usually more successful in Europe than in the US.
Dylan is one of the few albums that is not yet in North America on CD was released, but it is at iTunes as a download available. The album was released in Europe in CD format under the title Bob Dylan (A Fool Such as I) .
