The Schall is a German research ship . The ship is used today for marine research, but also for exploring offshore wind farms and as a traffic safety vehicle during their construction. The Schall is driven by five crew members and also offers space for up to seven additional people. She can stay at sea for up to seven days. The shallow draft also allows it to be used in shallow sea areas.

history

The ship was built in 1961/1962 under the hull number 189 as a coaster at the shipyard H. Rancke in Hamburg. The keel was laid in June 1961, the launch on July 28, 1962. The completion took place in September 1962, then the ship was put into service as a sea ​​falcon .

In 1970 the ship was sold to Atlas Elektronik in Bremen, who had it converted into a research ship and put it into motion under the name of Schall . In another renovation in 1985, the ship was extended. Since August 1, 2008 the ship has belonged to the company BMS Baltic Marine Service, a subsidiary of RF Forschungsschiffahrt in Bremen, which in turn belongs to Linnhoff Schiffahrt . In 2012 the ship was sold again and now by Capt. Kronisch in Bremerhaven bereedert .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by a twelve - cylinder four-stroke diesel engine made by MAN Truck & Bus AG (type: D 2842 LE) with an output of 439  kW , which acts on a variable-pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ship thus reaches a speed of 10  knots . It also has a bow thruster .

Two Mercedes diesel generators with 42  kVA apparent power , three Deutz diesel generators and an emergency generator are available for the power supply.

The ship has three decks . Nine cabins are available for the crew and embarked scientists or technicians, including six single cabins, two double cabins and one for four people. On the main deck there is a 70 m² working deck in front of the deckhouse , on which a crane is installed that can lift up to 2.5 tons. With the crane z. B. Research equipment can be taken on board and moved on the working deck. A 20-foot container can be accommodated on the working deck . There are two laboratories on board for scientific work . The ship has a 5.3 × 3.5 meter moon pool and another 0.96 × 1.32 meter floor opening.
