The Scharhörn is a pollutant accident control ship of the waterways and shipping administration of the federal government . It is operated by the Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office . The ship is used as a buoy lay-up and for the maintenance of shipping signs (shipping sign vehicle), for fighting pollution accidents, fighting fires, for providing assistance at sea (especially emergency towing ) and for shipping police tasks . It bears the name of the island of Scharhörn in the Heligoland Bay .

General

For use as a navigation sign vehicle, the ship is equipped with a barrel crane that can lift between 5 and 12 t depending on the display. The ship has a total of five fire-fighting cannons (monitors) for fire fighting . Two of them can be remotely controlled from the ship's bridge . There is a treatment room on board with full emergency medical equipment.

The Scharhörn was founded in 1974 under the hull number 1112 on the Rheinwerft Walsum as rig - catering , Bremen, built and of type "Class 4500 PSV" for those VTG supply Schiffahrt GmbH on the name Ostertor baptized. In November it was sold to the Waterways and Shipping Directorate North in Kiel. In 1982 she was converted at the Elsflether shipyard into today's multi-purpose ship Scharhörn . This makes her the oldest of the four multi-purpose ships of the federal government and the prototype for the other ships of this type.

The Scharhörn was initially subordinate to the Cuxhaven Waterways and Shipping Office and was used in the German Bight . In 1998 it was replaced by Neuwerk and subordinated to the Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office. Their area of ​​operation is the western Baltic Sea from Flensburg to the Buk lighthouse in the Mecklenburg Bay .

The ship is propelled by two twelve-cylinder four - stroke diesel engines made by MTU , each with an output of 1320  kW . The two motors each act on a controllable pitch propeller . The ship also has a bow thruster .

replacement

On December 20, 2019, the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping ordered two new multi-purpose vessels from Abeking & Rasmussen . The new buildings will have an LNG propulsion system and a helicopter landing deck . One of these ships will replace the Scharhörn .
