Schiefling im Lavanttal is a village and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Bad St. Leonhard im Lavanttal in the Wolfsberg district , Carinthia . With 248 inhabitants and an area of ​​1.53 km², it is the smallest cadastral community in Bad St. Leonhard in terms of area.

Schiefling is on the left of the Lavant , which gives the place its nickname, on a small mountain, surrounded by other cadastral communities in Bad St. Leonhards. At no point does it border on any of the neighboring communities.

history

Schiefling was first mentioned in a document in 1234, while the parish church of St. Aegid was not mentioned until 1417, although the year the parish was founded is unknown. Around 1780 the shopkeeper Michael Prasser set up a private school. In 1815 the first public elementary school was housed in the Messnerhaus, which was run as a single class until 1877. The church was originally built as a Gothic structure and was rebuilt in the baroque style in the middle of the 18th century . The inside of the vault was added later; frescoes can still be seen in the attic of the church on the wall above the vaulted arch. Until the end of 1972 Schiefling was an independent community. With the latest community reform on January 1, 1973, it was incorporated into the community of Bad St. Leonhard together with Kliening and a part of Gräbern-Prebl .
