The Schiltach is a river in the middle of the Black Forest , which after about 30 kilometers runs approximately to the north in the town of Schiltach flows into the Kinzig from the left .
Surname
Between the village and the town of Tennenbronn Schramberg Schiltach flows through the canyon-like Bernecktal and to the confluence of this section Lauterbach on Bruckbeck also called Berneck. This name comes from the Berneck castle ruins above the valley .

It rises in the southern district of Langenschiltach , a small town near St. Georgen , then flows between the village of Tennenbronn and the town of Schramberg through the gorge-like Berneck valley , where the river itself is also called Berneck .
After Schramberg, the river flows through the rural settlement of Lehengericht and after 29 kilometers reaches its confluence with the Kinzig in the center of Schiltach .

The mean water level (1993–2003) at the Hinter- Lehengericht gauge is 0.34 m, the mean runoff value is 2.31 m³ / s.
Importance as a traffic route
Until the end of the 19th century, the Schiltach served as a transport route for rafting . The Schiltach – Schramberg railway along the Schiltach valley, which was opened in 1892, was shut down in 1989 and dismantled in 1992 with the exception of a few relics.

Cultural
The river has achieved a certain fame through the “ Da-Bach-na-Fahrt ” (down the brook ride) . Every year on Shrove Monday, 40 teams drive the river in Schramberg with self-made water companions (Zubern) and various motto themes.
