The ruin Berneck , also called ruin Tischneck , is the ruin of a spur castle at 620 m above sea level. NN in the Berneckal northeast of Tennenbronn in the Baden-Württemberg district of Rottweil . It stands on a wooded rock opposite the so-called "devil's kitchen".
Little is known about the history of the castle. All we know is that it was owned by Messrs. Von Falkenstein and Ramstein .
The castle is surrounded by a moat up to three meters deep . Remains of the former residential tower and some parts of the wall of unclear importance have been preserved. There is a stonemason's mark on one of the blocks , which can also be found on the Ramstein ruins . It was possibly the same stonemasons and a construction period in the same period. Since humpback cuboids were built without pincer holes, it is assumed that it was built before 1230.
Between 1960 and 1963 excavations were carried out on the ruin , among other things cup tiles were found that belong to the period between 1250 and 1275. Since the entire find layer was covered by a layer of ash, it can be assumed that the facility was destroyed by fire.
