Scilla nana is a species of squill ( Scilla ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
features
Scilla nana is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 35 centimeters. This geophyte forms an onion as a persistent organ. The leaves are dark green, the edge and underside are a little reddish. They are curved back, deeply grooved and 1 to 9 millimeters wide.
The inflorescence stem is completely reddish and ends in a one to three-flowered (rarely up to five-flowered) inflorescence. The flower shell is darker on the inside than on the outside and 1/3 has grown together. The outer bracts are narrower than the inner ones. Outside the tube has a deep blue-violet central stripe, inside it is blue-violet. There are four ovules per carpel . The stamens are more or less parallel.
The flowering period extends from April to July.
Occurrence
Scilla nana is endemic to Crete in the Chania regional unit . This species grows on the Lefka Ori at altitudes of mostly 1400 to 2100 (900 to 2300) meters on snow soils, clay surfaces, subalpine hedgehog cushion heaths and mountain forests.
Systematics
The status of Scilla nana and the demarcation of this clan from Scilla albescens are unclear. Some authors distinguish both as subspecies:
- Scilla nana subsp. nana
- Scilla nana subsp. albescens (Speta) Speta ( Syn.Scilla albescens Speta , Chionodoxa albescens (Speta) Rix )
