Se7en (born November 9, 1984 , actually Choe Dong-uk ) is a South Korean R&B and K-pop singer and dancer. He sings mainly in Korean and Japanese. Some of his songs were also recorded again in English and Chinese .

Music career

At the age of 15, Choe Dong-uk began professional training with the YG Entertainment label , which signed him. During his time as a trainee, he began to learn Japanese in order to pursue a music career there as well. After four years of dance and voice training, he made his debut in 2003 with the album Just Listen and enjoyed success in South Korea, Japan and a few other Asian countries. Se7en received his first award in 2003 with the New Male Artist Music Video Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards . In 2004 the second album, Must Listen, followed , which was also released in Chinese in 2006. In 2006 there were also two new Korean-language albums with 24 / SE7EN and Se7olution and a Japanese-language album with FIRST SE7EN .

From 2007 he tried to continue his career in the USA. Se7en released the song Take Control with Amerie in November 2007 , which is a bonus track on Amerie's album Because I Love It . On a planned US album, u. a. Grammy winner and producer Rich Harrison and the producer team Noize Trip , as well as US rappers Fabolous and Mark Shimmel will work. On March 10, 2009, the first US single Girls was released, which was produced by Rodney Jerkins . The US rapper Lil 'Kim appeared in the accompanying music video . In April 2009, he and BoA , the Wonder Girls and Japanese singer Hikaru Utada were featured in People magazine in an article entitled "Coming To America ... Asian Pop Stars". Even before the US single was released, YG Entertainment announced that Se7en would return to South Korea. A US album was not released. Se7en flew back to South Korea and performed in South Korea for the first time since 2007 on December 5th, 2009, as a special guest in G-Dragon's concert Shine a Light .

In 2010 he released the EP Digital Bounce in South Korea . In 2011 he returned to Japan with concerts and in 2012 released the EP Somebody Else , which reached number 13 in the Oricon charts. Also in 2012 he released his second Korean-language EP SE7EN Mini Album Vol. 2 . He was named Best Overseas Performer at the China Music Award and Asian Influential Awards 2012 .

Acting

Se7en played in the South Korean Series 2007 Prince Hours with. The first episode of the series was broadcast on January 10, 2007 on the South Korean broadcaster MBC .

Private

Se7en is dating the South Korean actress Park Han-byul .

Se7en has been doing his military service since March 2013 . After eight weeks of basic training, he has to complete 21 months. In June 2013, a scandal broke out when the national media reported about an excursion by members of the “ Entertainer ” unit, during which various violations of the military code of conduct occurred and Se7en could be identified as one of the participants. As a result of the media reports, the Ministry of Defense decided to dissolve the unit that had existed for 16 years and in which over 100 celebrities served under preferential treatment, such as the rapper Psy .
