The Star Breeze is a cruise ship that was built in 1989 as one of three structurally identical sister ships at Schichau Seebeckwerft AG in Bremerhaven . With a length of 134 m, a width of 19 m and a draft of 5.2 m, the ship is measured with 9.975 GT and 3.023 NRZ. She was operated from 1989 to 2015 as Seabourn Spirit by the American shipping company Seabourn Cruise Line .
history
Construction, commissioning and use
The Seabourn Spirit was laid on September 23, 1988 with the hull number 1070 at the Schichau Seebeckwerft AG in Bremerhaven . It was launched on March 17, 1989. Completion took place on November 7, 1989. The ship was then delivered to the Seabourn Cruise Line and entered in the Norwegian shipping register. She has been flying the flag of the Bahamas since 2002 .
The Seabourn Spirit set out for her first cruise on November 28, 1989 and has been in service on all oceans ever since. According to the Seabourn Cruise Line, between April 2014 [obsolete] and May 2015 [obsolete] the Seabourn Spirit, like its sister ships Seabourn Pride and Seabourn Legend , will be sold to Windstar Cruises. Pirate attack
The ship became known through a pirate attack off the Somali coast on November 5, 2005. The ship was attacked by two small boats with about 12 pirates on board. They were armed with Kalashnikovs and bazookas . A grenade hit the ship, with one sailor slightly injured. The crew of the Seabourn Spirit fought against the attackers with long range acoustic devices . After attempts to ram the attackers' boats had failed, the ship was able to escape with a zigzag course into the open sea. Later the US destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG-66) was added and explosives experts from the United States Navy examined the impacted object. They discovered that it was not the RPG's warhead , but part of the propulsion system. The grenade had previously detonated on the outside of the ship's side .

In November 2018, Windstar Cruises signed a contract with Fincantieri to extend all sister ships for 200 million euros between spring 2019 and November 2020. The main engines will also be replaced. The construction of the new central nave section began with the first steel cut in Trieste on April 3, 2019. The extension began in Palermo in October 2019 and should be completed in February 2020. However, asbestos was found in the engine room during the extension , delaying completion until May 2020.
Machine system and drive
The Seabourn Spirit is equipped with a conventional diesel-mechanical propulsion system. On the port and starboard sides , a twelve-cylinder V-engine and an eight-cylinder in-line engine from BMV Bergen Diesel act as a drive group via a Lohmann GVA 1120 B reduction gear on a variable-pitch propeller . In Bug One is to assist maneuvering thruster system installed.
Three eight-cylinder diesel generators ( BMV Bergen Diesel KRG-8) with an output of 1200 kW and a twelve-cylinder diesel generator from MWM (MWM TBD 234V12) with an output of 800 kW are installed as an emergency generator for the power supply.
Cabins and on-board facilities
The ship has 106 luxuriously equipped suites of various categories. They have a floor area between approximately 26 and approximately 53 square meters and some have balconies or panoramic windows. The ship is designed for 212 passengers plus crew members . There are three restaurants , a café and a wellness area on board . A retractable bathing island at the stern enables various water sports .
