Serafín Vásquez Elizalde

Serafín Vásquez Elizalde (born September 13, 1922 in San Martín Xaltocan , Tlaxcala State , Mexico ; † February 10, 2009 in Guadalajara , Mexico) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Huejutla and Ciudad Guzmán in Mexico.

Life

Serafín Vásquez Elizalde, one of six children, entered the Puebla Seminary at the age of thirteen after the death of his parents . On May 2, 1948, he was ordained a priest from the hands of the Archbishop of Puebla de los Ángeles , José Ignacio Marquez y Tóriz . He was then pastor in Atlixco , later in the diocesan administration and superior for the mission in the Archdiocese of Puebla de los Ángeles.

On March 16, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the fourth bishop of Huejutla . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop José Ignacio Márquez y Toriz on May 29, 1968; Co- consecrators were Emilio Abascal y Salmerón , Archbishop of Jalapa , and Luis Munive Escobar , Bishop of Tlaxcala . On December 2, 1977, he was appointed second bishop of Ciudad Guzmán .

On December 11, 1999, Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation. Vásquez Elizalde died of complications from diabetes .
