Sergei Wassiljewitsch Lukjanenko ( Russian Сергей Васильевич Лукьяненко , scientific transliteration Sergej Vasil'evič Luk'janenko ; born April 11, 1968 in Karatau , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is the most successful contemporary Russian science fiction and fantasy author .

biography

Lukyanenko studied medicine in Alma-Ata and practiced as a psychiatrist for a long time . His activity as a writer began in the early 1980s with the publication of short stories in the monthly “Uralski Sledopyt” (Уральский следопыт) and shortly afterwards in English in the Soviet-Indian monthly magazine “Sputnik Junior - Junior Quest”. His early works were heavily influenced by Robert A. Heinlein and Wladislaw Krapiwin and he quickly established himself as a professional writer. Today he lives and works as a freelance writer in Moscow with his wife Sonja.

At the end of September 2005 Wächter der Nacht - Nochnoi Dozor - was shown in German cinemas - a film based on the first of his Wächter novels . The film hit a box office record of more than $ 15 million in Russia. In September 2007, the sequel Watcher of the Day - Dnevnoi Dozor , started in Germany, grossing over 30 million US dollars in Russia and again breaking the box office record.
