In 1880 Welldorf was connected to the Mönchengladbach - Jülich railway line opened in 1873 with a breakpoint . In 1882 a train station was built in place of the breakpoint and the track system was expanded so that Welldorf became a train station. The trains to the north met the main line from Cologne in Hochneukirch, but usually continued to Mönchengladbach and were used by commuters and shoppers. The trains to the south either ended in Jülich or continued to Aachen or Düren. In 1975 rail traffic was stopped on Sundays, in the following years the train service was gradually further reduced and in 1980 finally stopped completely, including freight traffic. The tracks were only demolished in 1984, however. South of Welldorf, the railway line was converted into what is now the L 213 / L 264 road until just before Stetternich.
