Simone Lange grew up in Rudolstadt, Thuringia , then a district town in the Gera district ( GDR ), and graduated from high school in 1995 at the Fridericianum high school . After completing her studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Services in Altenholz in 1998 with a degree in administrative management (FH) in the police department , she worked as a clerk at the criminal police in Flensburg from 1999 to 2012 . According to her own statements, she studied general management from 2005 to 2007 .

She is the separated mother of two school-age daughters. Through her partner, she came into contact with the Danish ethnic group in southern Schleswig , the children go to a local Danish school .

Lange joined the SPD in 2003 and held various party offices in Flensburg . From 2008 to 2012 she was on the City Council of Flensburg and chaired the youth welfare committee. From 2013 to 2016 she was district chairwoman of the SPD Flensburg.

Before the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2012 , the SPD nominated her as a direct candidate in the Flensburg state electoral district . She received 34.2 percent of the votes cast.
