Sing “Yesterday” for Me ( イ エ ス タ デ イ を う た っ て Iesutadei wo Utatte ) is the title of an anime television series based on the manga series of the same name by the Mangaka Kei Toume .

The anime was created in the animation studio Dōga Kōbō where Yoshiyuki Fujiwara directed .

The series is largely set in the suburbs of Shinjuku in 2002. Rikuo Uozumi graduated from college but has no idea what he would like to achieve in his life. Therefore he starts to work in a Konbini to earn some money. Haru Nonaka, a high school dropout , visits the store regularly with her pet, a crow named Kansuke. Rikuo still has feelings for Shirako Morimone, a former classmate who is embarking on a career as a teacher . One day Shirako suddenly shows up at Rikuo's workplace.

But even Haru, who fell in love with Rikuo, is confronted with her past when her former classmate Kōichi Minato comes back into her life and reveals his feelings for her.

On April 18, 2019, it was announced that the manga series of Mangaka Kei Toume would be converted into an anime television series. In November of the same year, the production team for the series was revealed. As a director acts Yoshiyuki Fujiwara , who already shows like New Game! , Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan . The script was written by Jin Tanaka , who has worked on series such as One Piece and Tokyo Ghoul , while the character design was conceived by Junichirō Taniguchi .

The anime series was created in the Dōga Kōbō studio and was produced by DMM.futureworks. Parts of the speaker cast were announced at the end of January 2020. Rikuo is spoken by Chikahiro Kobayashi , Haru Nonaka by Yume Miyamoto . Other speakers are Natsuki Hanae as Rō Hayakawa and Kana Hanazawa , who lends her voice to Shinako Morinome. It was also announced that the anime series will have 18 episodes, twelve of which will be shown on television, while the remaining six will only be available online.

In mid-February 2020, 21 additional voice actors were announced who will receive speaking roles in the anime series. The theme song is Kago no Naka ni Tori by the Japanese rock band Yourness , which can be seen in the credits of the series.

The first twelve episodes will be shown on Japanese television, while the last six episodes of the 18 episode series will be available exclusively on AbemaTV online. On March 27, 2020, the first ten minutes of the first episode were shown in advance.

In Germany , Crunchyroll will show the series in simulcast in the original language with German subtitles .
