The Sinziger Mosaikplattenfabrik is a company in Sinzig , a town in the Ahrweiler district in northern Rhineland-Palatinate , which was founded in 1869. Today the tile factory belongs to the Deutsche Steinzeug Cremer & Breuer Aktiengesellschaft group of companies based in Alfter-Witterschlick .

history

The beginning of the manufacture of mosaic plates in Sinzig begins in the year 1870. In addition to the plate factory established in Mettlach by the company Villeroy & Boch in 1869, the mosaic plate and pottery factory of Ferdinand Frings u. Co., formerly known as “Mosaikfabrik” or “Plattenfabrik”.

In 1871 the Royal Prussian Government allowed a steam boiler to be put into operation . At that time there were already 159 workers employed in the factory. Clay slabs of various sizes and colors were produced in round ovens. Until 1910, the company operated under the name Sinziger Mosaikplatten- & Thonwaaren-Fabrik, Actiengesellschaft in Sinzig am Rhein . As a result of a merger with the United Mosaikplatten-Aktiengesellschaft Friedland, it was then renamed United Mosaikplattenwerke Friedland-Sinzig Aktiengesellschaft . In 1943 it was merged with the Munich-Vienna share brickworks. The later name AGROB Aktiengesellschaft is derived from this. The Sinzig plant has been part of Deutsche Steinzeug Cremer & Breuer Aktiengesellschaft since 1997 .

At the beginning of the First World War , the Sinzig plant already had 300 employees. They produced 25,000 m² of floor tiles a month and by 1939 the capacity had doubled. In 1938 the first tunnel kiln was put into operation.

During the Second World War , "items essential to the war effort" were produced. The upturn in the German economy after the currency reform in 1948 brought dynamic development to the “Sinziger record factory”. Today the factory is a state-of-the-art production facility for porcelain stoneware up to 90 × 45 cm.
