The Sitajara District is located in the Tarata Province in the Tacna Region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 7, 1955. It has an area of 233 km². The 2017 census counted 371 residents. In 1993 the population was 350, in 2007 it was 560. The district administration is located in the 3150 m high village of Sitajara with 280 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sitajara is located 15 km northwest of the provincial capital Tarata .
Geographical location
The Sitajara district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the southeast of the Tarata province. The Río Salado, right tributary of the Río Sama , crosses the district in a southerly direction.
The Sitajara district borders in the south and southwest on the Héroes Albarracín district , in the northwest on the Quilahuani district , in the north on the Candarave district ( Candarave province ), in the northeast on the Susapaya district and in the east on the Ticaco district .
