Coordinates: 55 ° 38 '  N , 13 ° 42'  O Sjöbo is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the southern Swedish province Skane Lan and the historical province Scania . The main town of the municipality is Sjöbo .

geography

Most of the lake Vombsjön , which supplies the city of Malmö with water, is located within the municipality .

history

The municipality received its present form in 1974 when the municipalities of Blentarp , Östra Fär , Vollsjö and part of the municipality Bjärsjölagård were incorporated into Sjöbo.

The community gained national fame in 1988 when 67 percent of the electorate voted against the admission of refugees in a referendum .

Sjöbo is considered a municipality with a relatively large proportion of right-wing voters . Sjöbopartiet is a communal party that regularly attracts attention for making racist statements. In the local elections in 2002 it achieved 18.3 percent of all votes, and in 1994 it was even able to achieve 31.8 percent of the vote.

Björka Church

There are various churches in the municipality , of which at least five (in Södra Åsum , Tolånga , Björka , Blentarp and Everlöv ) date from the 12th century and still largely have their medieval shape, as most of them did not have to be renovated or rebuilt. There are interesting ceiling paintings in the church of Everlöv.

The Övedskloster Castle and the Öved Church are located near Vombsjön .

Every year at the end of July the Sjöbo marknad takes place, a market that has been held since 1864. It attracts around 100,000 visitors every year.
