Syarhey Apanassawitsch Kolassau ( Belarusian Сяргей Апанасавіч Коласаў , Russian Сергей Афанасьевич Колосов / Sergei Afanassjevitch Kolosov; * 22. May 1986 in Navapolatsk , Byelorussian SSR ) is a Belarusian ice hockey player , who at since 2011 HK Neman Grodno in the Belarusian Extraliga plays.
Career
After Sjarhej Kolassau had started his career at Polimir Nawapolazk , he made his debut in the 2003/04 season as a 16-year-old in the professional team of HK Dinamo Minsk from the Belarusian extra league . There he spent almost the entire season and was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the fifth round at position 151.
Although Kolassau had the opportunity to spend the 2004/05 season in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , he stayed in Belarus. He played for Dinamo for most of the season before being transferred to HK Junost Minsk just before the end of the season , where he helped win the Belarusian championship .
In the summer of 2005 he signed a contract with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the US junior league United States Hockey League . In his first season he had two goals and eight assists , in his second year he came up with a total of eleven points, but mainly he stood out because of his physical game. After two years in North America, he returned to his homeland and played again for HK Dinamo Minsk in the 2007/08 season.
After the end of the season, he finally received an entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings for two years in the summer of 2008 and first played with their farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins , in the American Hockey League from autumn 2008 . There he established himself in the team's regular squad with an unspectacular but reliable style of play on the defensive. Once in the season he was also able to shine on the offensive when he scored three goals in two games at the end of January 2009. In August 2011 he returned to Belarus and accepted a contract offer from HK Nyoman Hrodna .
Sjarhej Kolassau is a defender who mainly stands out in front of his own goal, where he can best use his height of 1.93 meters to keep opposing strikers away through his physically tough game. On the offensive, however, he has no special qualities, which is why he is considered a so-called “stay-at-home” defender.
International
Sjarhej Kolassau made his debut for the Belarusian national team at the 2003 U18 World Cup . His next missions were at the U20 B World Cup in 2004 , where they were promoted to the A group undefeated.
A few months later Kolassau competed a second time at the U18 Junior World Championship , but with the penultimate place the U18 juniors could not keep up and were relegated to the B group. At the U20 Junior World Championship in 2005 they also had to accept relegation from the A group after they finished last despite a respectable 5-3 victory over the US selection . But the next year they managed to get promoted again in the U20 junior title fights in Division I , with Kolassau contributing one goal and four assists in five games .
At the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2008 Kolassau was part of the senior squad for the first time. Belarus failed in the second round, but with ninth place overall, the team was able to qualify for the 2010 Olympic ice hockey tournament ahead of time.
