Skačany (Hungarian Szkacsány - until 1907 Szkacsán ) is a municipality and a town in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 1,348 (as of December 31, 2019). It lies in the Okres Partizánske , a district of the higher administrative unit Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
Skačany is located on the Nitrica River at the northeastern tip of the Slovak Danube Hills and, six kilometers from Partizánske .
history
Evidence of settlement goes back to the Bronze Age, with finds from the Lusatian culture . The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1078 and later became the seat of a manor that comprised 14 communities. In 1698 the place received market rights and then developed as a small market town. The community is still dominated by agriculture today.
