Slayers ( Japanese ス レ イ ヤ ー ズ , Sureiyāzu ) is a light novel series by Hajime Kanzaka , which served as a template for several manga and anime productions. They tell the adventures of the young magician Lina Inverse and her companions, who fight against demons, dark magicians and other dark figures. With the exception of a few more serious moments, it is often very weird.

The light novel series had sold more than 20 million times by the end of 2011.

world

The world in which the Slayers universe takes place was created by the Lord of Nightmares (feminine in English). The Lord of Nightmares is a being who incorporates both black and white magic. Four worlds were created by him, in which a supreme devil and a supreme god / dragon are responsible for the black / white magic. In the world of the main characters, this is for the black magic Ruby Eye, who fell while fighting the white magic god, the Fire Dragon King. The story of Slayers takes place after that fight in which both died. White and black magic are used by dragons and demons, respectively. If you combine these, which only Lina can do, you use the full power of the Lord of Nightmares and are therefore superior to all other spells. As a human being, you seem to be the only being able to use both magics. Lina knows the uncontrollable Giga Slave and since the second season, Slayers NEXT, the Laguna sword, who draw directly from the power of the master of nightmares.

Characters

Lina Inverse (リ ナ ・ イ ン バ ー スRina Inbāsu )
The young but powerful magician is characterized by flaming red hair, a small bust size, to her regret, an extreme appetite and a greed for gold. Their guiding principle is to take away from the wicked and give yourself. While she doesn't purposely harm innocents, collateral damage occasionally occurs when she overdoses her magic. Therefore, the very sight of them can lead to panic among the population.
In the Japanese original, Megumi Hayashibara is Lina's voice actress ( seiyū ).
Gourry Gabriev (ガ ウ リ イ ・ ガ ブ リ エ フGaurī Gaburiefu )
Gourry is an excellent swordsman, but he is quite dumb. So it is already based on a misunderstanding that he even joins Lina. The two soon become inseparable; Their relationship is described by both of them only as a good friendship, but at the end of the second season it becomes clear that they feel more for each other. However, neither of them can remember the decisive event.
Naga, the white snake
Lina's self-proclaimed "greatest rival" does not appear in the TV series, only in the films and OVAs. Her trademarks are her ample bust, which she also likes to flaunt, and her crazy laugh. She is very confident of herself and constantly tries to demonstrate her superiority to Lina.
Naga is Amelia's older sister. This information is nowhere in the books and films, but has been officially confirmed by Kanzaka. Her full name is Gracia Ul Naga Saillune . Your self-chosen nickname "the white snake" is an allusion to the coat of arms of the Saillune family.
Zelgadis Greywords (ゼ ル ガ デ ィ ス ・ グ レ イ ワ ー ズZerugadisu Gureiwāzu )
Zelgadis was turned one third into a demon and another third into a golem by Rezo, the Red Priest. The golem part gives him a tough stone skin and the demon part gives him great physical and magical powers, which makes him a very powerful fighter. Still, his only goal is to undo the transformation and kill Rezo. He first appears as Lina's opponent before joining her. He is a grim, withdrawn character who only appears to be loyal to himself.
Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune (ア メ リ ア ・ ウ ィ ル ・ テ ス ラ ・ セ イ ル ー ンAmeria Wiru Tesura Seirūn )
The childlike, naive princess of the Saillune kingdom is a fanatic of justice; her greatest wish is to fight evil. She has mastered shamanistic magic, but at first she is clearly lacking in wisdom and experience. This and her weakness for dramatic speeches and poses (which usually go wrong due to her clumsiness) get on Lina a lot at first, but over time the two become best friends.
Xellos (ゼ ロ スZerosu )
The mazoku (demon) is the chief servant of Zelas Metallium, one of the five demon rulers, and is one of the most powerful demons of all. He interferes again and again in Lina's affairs, whereby his intervention is sometimes helpful, sometimes a hindrance. Xellos is a trickster who almost always wears a grin on his face. His favorite answer to all kinds of questions is "This is a secret" ( sore wa himitsu desu ).
