Sonic the Hedgehog is an American animated series and consists of 26 episodes, divided into two seasons. Their content is based on the games of Sonic the Hedgehog . It was first broadcast in Germany in 1996 as part of Sonic the crazy Igel on Kabel eins . In 2012 it was broadcast completely re-synchronized on the pay TV channel KidsCo . To avoid confusion with the game series of the same name, the series is also called SatAM or Sonic SatAM (from "Saturday ante meridiem" or "Saturday at morning") by English-speaking fans , as it was broadcast every Saturday morning in the USA. The series is differentiated from the simultaneously broadcast series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (also part of Sonic the crazy hedgehog) by the much more serious story and dystopian environment.
action
In the year 3224 the Great War ends on planet Mobius, which is inhabited by human-like animals . King Acorn of Mobotropolis then appoints the previous Minister of War, Dr. Julian Robotnik as Minister of Science. However, Snively and his nephew have different plans. Robotnik uses its army of robots to carry out a coup . After it succeeds, he has as many residents as possible captured and using the robotizer to transform them into willless robot slaves. Robotnik banishes the king to another dimension called The Void . Those facing the vicious Dr. Robotnik were able to escape, isolated freedom fighter groups and from now on waged a guerrilla war against the tyrant, including the Knothole Freedom Fighters . This group consists of Princess Sally Acorn, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rotor Walrus, Tails , Bunnie Rabbot and Antoine Depardieu, as well as Dulcy (from season 2). In the following eleven years they repeatedly managed to win small wins against Robotnik. One day, in the desert, The Great Unknown , they discover an entrance to the Void. This is generated by Robotnik's former colleague Naugus, who discovered the Void. This is where the freedom fighters find the missing king. Among other things, the freedom fighters manage to travel through time to get to the blueprints of the robotizer. They use this to develop a de-robotizer , which, however, does not work permanently. However, you can find that all robotized mobians are fully conscious at all times, with no control over their bodies. They use this knowledge to free Uncle Chuck's mind with a power ring . Charles Hedgehog now serves as a spy for freedom fighters in Robotropolis, Robotnik's capital. With his help, they can find out that Dr. Robotnik is working on a machine that destroys everything, the Doomsday Project (World Destruction Project ). With this he hopes to be able to achieve the final victory. But this time too he is hit hard by Sonic and Sally when they destroy his dream with the Deep Power Stones . After its destruction, the freedom fighters celebrate their victory over Dr. Robotnik. This is captured by Naugus. But now Robotnik's nephew Snively emerges from the background and wants to rule the world himself.
characters
main characters
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic is a 16 year old blue hedgehog. He can run as fast as sound. He is very smart, but he is obviously lacking in education. He is sometimes referred to as the leader of the Freedom Fighters.
- Princess Sally Alicia Acorn
- She is the 16 year old daughter of King Acorn and the leader of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. She organizes and plans most of the troops' operations. She was referred to internally as " fox / squirrel ".
- Bunnie Rabbot
- Bunnie is a semi-robotized rabbit that the freedom fighters saved. With her robotic arm she can lift very heavy objects or open doors.
- rotor
- He is the scientist and mechanic in Knothole. In addition to Sally, he often develops new machines.

- NICOLE
- NICOLE is an extremely powerful pocket computer that is mainly used by Sally and contains a large store of knowledge that freedom fighters often access.

- Uncle Chuck is the inventor of the robotizer and power rings. He was ennobled by the king for his inventions, but was enslaved to his own invention by Robotnik.
- Dulcy
- Dulcy is a female guardian dragon. Her skills, especially flying, make her a valuable member of the freedom fighters.
- Naugus
- Naugus is a powerful wizard and worked with Dr. Robotnik together. He discovered the void, but was betrayed by Robotnik and imprisoned there.
- Dr. Julian Robotnik
- Robotnik is an overweight but muscular scientist who is about 2 meters tall and wants to bring the planet Mobius under his control. He always comes up with new diabolical methods, which he carries out ruthlessly.
- Snively
- This little man is Robotnik's nephew and assistant. It serves as a drain valve for Robotnik's frustration, although sometimes it is of great help to him. As the series progresses, he becomes increasingly disloyal to his uncle and forges plans of his own to usurp the rule.
Minor characters
- King Acorn
- King Acorn is the rightful ruler of Mobotropolis who was overthrown by Robotnik. He is also Sally's father and has knowledge of all of the resistance groups on Mobius.
- Ari
- Ari was the leader of a freedom fighter group, but Robotnik has robotized it except for him.
- Cat
- This cat was an older member of the Freedom Fighters but was captured by Robotnik during a mission.

- Pollo
- He is the leader of the eastern freedom fighter group.
- Rosie
- She is the nanny of the Knothole Freedom Fighters until, in fact, she was captured and robotized by worker robots. During a time travel, however, Sally advises her never to leave Knothole, which means she has not been robotized.
- Sabina
- Sabina is the mother of Dulcy and also a guardian dragon.
- Terrapods
- These are dinosaur-like animals that move to Boulder Bay every year .
- Cluck
- This robotic chicken is Robotnik's pet. It only appears during the first season.
- Lazaar
- Lazaar was an evil and powerful wizard who, however, changed his mind during a long sleep in the Forbidden Zone .
- SWAT bots
- Most of Dr. Robotnik's robot army consists of SWATBots. Although they can easily be outwitted, they also pose a danger to Sonic that should not be underestimated.
- The Guardian
- The guard watches over Lazaar's Forbidden Zone .
Locations
- Planet Mobius
- This is the planet where all of the action takes place.
- Mobotropolis / Robotropolis
- This is the capital of a kingdom on planet Mobius. After Robotnik's coup, this once idyllic, green city was renamed Robotropolis, a gray, filthy paradise for robots.
- The Great Forest
- It is a large forest that is outside Robotropolis.
- The Great Swamp
- The Great Swamp is directly connected to the Great Forest.
- The Great Unknown
- The large unknown area is a desert-like landscape that is home to the Wolf Pack , another group of freedom fighters.
- Knothole Village (knothole village)
- This is the headquarters of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. It is a village hidden in the Great Forest . Dr. Robotnik and Snively have always tried to locate this place, but they fail.

- The Void is in another dimension discovered by Naugus. It serves as a prison for him and the fallen King Acorn.
- Lower Mobius (Nieder-Mobius)
- This is a city in a cave under Robotropolis where some survivors of the coup live.
- Ironlock Prison (iron lock prison)
- Ironlock is a now-abandoned prison somewhere in the Great Swamp.
- Crystal Mine (crystal mine)
- In this mine, Robotnik searches for crystals that he would like to use as an energy source for his machines.
Special objects
- Power Ring (Power Ring)
- Is a yellow, football-sized ring that appears to be made of pure energy. Only Sonic can use it. It allows him to run faster. Sir Charles Hedgehog developed the power rings and Dr. Robotnik has been after them ever since to use them as an energy source for his machines.
- Robotisizer
- A device that transforms living beings into machines and thus into willless slaves. It was developed by Sir Charles Hedgehog to make old people live longer. However, he destroyed the robotizer when he noticed the side effects. Dr. Robotnik then stole the robotizer and used it for its own purposes.
- In the KidsCo version, the robotizer is referred to as a robotizer. This probably goes back to the English term "roboticization", which was developed as a demarcation to the "robotization" of the animals from the game series by Sonic the Hedgehog . However, this name is incorrect in connection with this cartoon series.
- Stones of Power (Deep Power Stones)
- The stones of power can cause immense power or immense destruction, depending on how they are put together.
- Time Stones
- The time stones make it possible to travel to any place at any time through mind control.

Episode list
It should be noted that the sorting of the episode order is carried out differently depending on the source. The reason for this is that the order of the first airing does not correspond to the order of production of the episodes. However, the latter was used on the full DVD release and in the latest German-language broadcast.
