The Sony α7R (internally ILCE-7R = Interchangeable Lens Camera with E-mount 7) is a mirrorless system camera (DSLM) with full-frame image sensor that has been available in stores since October 16, 2013. In the summer of 2015, the successor model, the α7R II, appeared .

Technical specifications

Due to the mirrorless system, the camera housing is relatively small despite the small format sensor and an interchangeable lens system. The Sony α7R has an effective image resolution of 36.4 megapixels and uses the BIONZ X image processor to process the image data. It does not have an optical low-pass filter . The high image resolution of the image sensor places extremely high demands on the optical quality of the lenses used .

The camera housing has an E-mount connection, and most of the matching lenses have an integrated motor for the autofocus . A contrast autofocus with 25 measuring points is used as the autofocus system. The built-in monitor and electronic viewfinder support live view with software magnifying glass and focus peaking . With the integrated Wi-Fi function, the Alpha 7 can be remotely controlled via a smartphone or other mobile device. The recordings can be transferred directly to mobile devices and suitable televisions.

reception

When it was released, the Sony α7R received numerous praise for its outstanding image quality due to the high-resolution full-frame sensor. The IT journalist Martin Vieten attested to its "excellent resolution, superb dynamic range and perfectly coordinated noise reduction" and called the Alpha 7R "the reference in terms of image quality", dpreview wrote "the camera is capable of capturing excellent images", and other media such as Color photo ("highest image quality", "exorbitant sharpness") and computer image ("outstanding image quality") agreed with these judgments Nikon D800 . Another positive point was the compactness and lightness of the camera compared to digital SLR cameras .

However, the speed of the camera was clearly criticized. Vieten wrote “her serial frame rate is low, the autofocus a bit slow”, dpreview summarized “the camera isn't ready quickly enough to catch the moment” and Computerbild concluded “At the speed it is not an alternative to the SLR, that's what it is Sony Alpha7R just not fast enough. ”. Other occasional criticisms were the lack of an internal flash unit and vibration of the shutter.

On July 15, 2015, the Hasselblad company presented their “Lusso” model. This is a technically identical camera to the Sony α7R, but with a new, luxurious design.

Individual evidence

  1. Sony (along with other manufacturers) counts the subpixels of each pixel, i.e. H. the red, green and blue channels of each pixel individually, and therefore specifies the rear display with 307,200 [pixels] × 3 [colors] = 921,600 pixels.
