history
Brand was laid out in the middle of the 16th century on cleared state forest land and was dedicated to the parish church in Habelschwerdt. After the First Silesian War in 1742 and finally with the Peace of Hubertusburg in 1763, it fell to Prussia together with the County of Glatz . After the reorganization of Prussia, it belonged to the province of Silesia from 1815 and was initially incorporated into the district of Glatz. In 1818 it was reorganized into the newly formed district of Habelschwerdt , to which it belonged until 1945. It was an independent rural municipality and since 1874 the District Old Weistritz incorporated. Thanks to its snow-sure location, it has developed into a popular winter sports resort since the end of the 19th century. In 1939 there were 150 inhabitants.
As a result of the Second World War , in 1945, like almost all of Silesia , Brand fell to Poland and was renamed Spalona . The German population was expelled . Some of the new residents were displaced from eastern Poland . However, many of them left Spalona in the next decades, so that the population decreased significantly and many houses were left to decay. In the 1990s, the number of residents was far less than half of the population of 1939. 1975-1998 Spalona belonged to the Wałbrzych Voivodeship (German Waldenburg ).
The Schronisko PTTK Jagodna ( Brandbaude ) hut is located on the Brandpass . Above that, a 300 m long chair ski lift is operated when the snow is guaranteed.
