The Spendel-Wildenstein nature reserve is the largest nature reserve in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 140 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1981 , extends west of the local community Jakobsweiler along the Wildensteiner Bach . The state road L 394 runs not far to the east, and not far to the north is the 686 meter high Donnersberg .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the near-natural forest, in particular the maple - ash forest , the maple - linden forest , the rock maple - oak forest and the rock pear bushes and the rare animals and plants bound to the biotopes of the area, as well as securing the natural forest cells for scientific and cultural reasons .
