The SsangYong Rodius , or SsangYong Stavic in some markets , is a car model from the Korean car manufacturer SsangYong , which has been in the second generation since 2013. It is a large-capacity van .

In Germany , the Rodius was available in spring 2005 as a seven-seater and only one engine variant, namely the 270 Xdi with 120 kW (163 hp). Rear-wheel and all-wheel drive variants were produced.

What is special about SsangYong engines is that, like the high-quality 5-speed automatic transmission , they are further developed under license from Mercedes-Benz and are given a corresponding Mercedes spare part number. The five-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2700 cm³ is based on the Mercedes-Benz OM 602 and, in the variant used by Ssang Yong with subsequently added common rail injection, has the designation OM662. In terms of reliability in accordance with the proven OM 602 on which it is based, it achieves almost the same power and torque values ​​as the more vulnerable OM647 developed by Mercedes for the E 270 CDI model in the same period . Other vehicle components (seats, interior trim, door handles, but also wheel suspension, floor pan) are predominantly based on parts that were used in the Mercedes-Benz W 124 and Mercedes-Benz W 140 .

The load volume is 875 l with full seating (7-seater) and up to 3146 l with maximum utilization of the fund as transport space. This corresponds to the payload of 610 kg (automatic version). The interior is variable thanks to the removable rear bench and the option of rotating the two individual seats in the middle row of seats by 180 ° against the direction of travel, which improves the accessibility of the third row of seats. Both the individual seats and the rear bench can be moved along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle as required, the individual seats can be folded up to form tables and the incline of the rear bench can be continuously adjusted or folded.

The maximum permissible trailer load is, depending on the version, between 2500 and 2850 kg (braked). The maximum permissible total weight of the vehicle is 2750 kg. The consumption values ​​in the cheapest version (manual transmission, 2WD, model 2007) are 8.6 l / 100 km combined, 11.0 l / 100 km in urban areas, 7.2 l / 100 km in extra urban areas, CO 2 emissions 230 g / km.

In Germany, the Rodius sells unusually poorly despite its comparatively low new price from € 24,900 (2005), in contrast to the conceptually comparable Mercedes-Benz R-Class , which is significantly smaller in terms of interior, performance and price but in the premium segment not least due to its eye-catching design, which corresponds in the roof line to the concept vehicle Mercedes Vision GST, which was presented at the Detroit Auto Show 2002. The goal of approx. 500 pieces, which SsangYong originally wanted to sell per year in Germany, could never be achieved until the insolvency of the importer Kroymans in 2008. After the resurgence of business operations of SsangYong Germany, the import of the model was not resumed.

The second generation of the Rodius appeared in the summer of 2013 and is also being offered again in Germany. A two-liter diesel engine with 114 kW (155 hp) and a torque of 360 Nm is available for the model, which is only available as a seven-seater. The vehicle has rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with all-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission available as an option. The Rodius was revised in summer 2018.

In Korea, the vehicle is sold as Korando Turismo.
