The Roman Catholic Church of St-Pierre in Genainville , a French parish in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region , was built from the 13th century. The building has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1920 .

history

The church was originally built as a priory church, the buildings of which are now used as a farm. The church soon also served as a parish church . The two naves from the 13th century are the oldest part. The choir dates from the beginning of the 14th century. Major reconstructions took place in the 16th century.

description

The Gothic building was changed in the Renaissance style, especially the west facade. The three yoke ships have separate gable roofs . The transept has a rectangular tower above the crossing . The facade is structured by buttresses . The renaissance facade facing the street from Haustein is attributed to the architect Jean Grappin from Gisors . It consists of three horizontal zones that are separated by cornices : the portal zone, the window zone and the gable zone with triangular gables as decoration. A massive buttress divides the entire facade symmetrically into two vertical zones. The lower area with the two portals is adorned with pilasters .

The cross-rib vault of the nave rests on Gothic pillars , the capitals of which are decorated with floral elements.

Furnishing

  • The church has a floor labyrinth from the late 13th century. It is carved into a limestone and only 75 cm by 68 cm tall.
  • The stone sculpture of the apostle Peter dates from the 17th century.
  • The polychrome sculpture made of walnut from the 16th century represents the Madonna and Child.
  • The 15th century wooden sculpture of St. Catherine was stolen in 1957 and found again soon after.
  • The retable of the main altar from the 16th century depicts a crucifixion group.
