St. Boniface Church

The Catholic village church of St. Bonifatius is in the municipality of Wüstheuterode in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It belongs to the dean's office Heiligenstadt of the diocese of Erfurt .

history

Before 1610, the practiced gentlemen von Hanstein the patronage over the church. From 1804 a Protestant pastor was in town. The church , built in 1804, was replaced by a new building in 1921. The main portal, lavishly designed with Tuscan columns, was taken over from the previous church . The consecration took place in 1923 by Bishop Caspar Klein from the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Between 1970 and 1973 the interior was renovated and redesigned. The altar consecration was carried out on May 26, 1974 by auxiliary bishop Karl Ebert from Erfurt .

The church tower was renovated in 1996, followed by renovation work on the interior in 1997.

Structure and equipment

The church is an unplastered four-axis hall building with a three-sided choir and sacristy extension . The facades are structured by wide pilasters made of stone and arched windows. In the western yoke of the south side is the main portal dated 1804 with a sandstone sculpture of St. Boniface . The slated roof tower stands at the western end of the roof .

Inside there is a barrel vault with flat decor above a cornice . 1970 to 1973 the west gallery was installed . Only an oil painting ( Coronation of Mary ) and some angel sculptures have survived from the former high altar . Also worth mentioning is a sculpture of the Virgin Mary with child, carved in the 15th century .

The sacristy doodle of the valley was poured in 1788. The organ was built in 1928/1929 by the company Helfenbein from Gotha .
