The listed Roman Catholic parish church of St. Johann Baptist in Ismaning , Kirchplatz 1, is the fourth of the well-known St. John's churches with the patron saint John the Baptist , all of which were built on the same, slightly elevated place east of the Seebach .

history

A Gothic church, first mentioned in a document in the 14th century, stood here . After the Thirty Years' War it had to give way to the baroque parish church (built between 1678 and 1685), in the place of which a new Romanesque building by the Munich architect Hans Schurr was built in 1903/04 . Due to dilapidation, the immediate closure of this church building was ordered in January 1969; the last service took place on January 12, 1969. Subsequently, the services were held for five years in a tent church next to the Seidl mill .

Finally, in 1974/75 today's church and the parish center were built, including the previous church, and consecrated on November 30, 1975. The architects were the Munich couple Helga and Adolf Schnierle . During the new construction, the choir of the neo-Romanesque predecessor building from 1904 was included in the design. The core of the now shortened church tower from the 13th century was retained, so the former nave can still be traced in the shape of the open churchyard. The new church space erected to the south of it is no longer a long building, but encloses the altar area on three sides with benches.

By name, pastors in St. Johann Baptist can be traced back to 1390. In the 20th century, the pastors were Gottfried Ziegler (term of office 1900–1924, then in Taufkirchen), Georg Meschütz (term of office 1924–1940, then in Mittergars), Benedikt Appel (term of office 1940–1951, then in Landshut), Johann Bengl (term of office 1951–1965, then in Munich St. Emmeram), Georg Zandl (term of office 1966–1992), Johannes Serz (term of office 1992–2010) and Markus Brunner (since 2010) employed here.
